As you may or may not have noticed–I hope you’ve noticed–I’ve been a bit absent lately ever since I spent eight hours trying to hand out my blogger awards only to have a “joke” inserted by the people who write code for wordpress destroy the whole thing. (This “joke” also led me to believe my whole computer had been hacked and now I have the most ridiculously complicated passwords, but fine.)
There’s a much lighter reason for my absence: the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament (or the EuroCopa as we call it in mi casa) kicked off Friday, 8 June and–just like with the Diamond Jubilee–I am a victim of poor “Time Zone Relations.” By the time the two group stage games were over, it’s about quarter to three in the afternoon here in sunny California and my husband and I have already had the obligatory beer/wine that comes with watching international footballing events.
So, excuses aside, dear readers, you’ve stumbled upon my other great passion: football, fútbol, soccer, balompié, calcio, voetbal, fußball, ποδόσφαιρο, fotbalový míč, fotbal….
So, in honor of what will most likely be a beat-down by a German team so finely-honed they move like a school of fish in relation to the ball, here’s something a bit more light-hearted. (Hell, it made me laugh first thing in the morning and usually all I want to do is rip someone’s head off before my coffee.)
(Marx was totally right…he was offsides!)
