What sweethearts, those guys at Sotheby’s! In honor of our 3rd anniversary as your Blog Hostess, those chuckleheads forwent an estimated $25 million gavel estimate to simply give us above ring to say ‘congratulations.’
Aw, thank you guys! The 100-carat, flawless emerald-cut diamond actually began at over 200 carats in the rough. The Sotheby’s Jewellery Division in New York spent the better part of a year re-cutting the stone so that it now shines like a reflecting pool.
Of course the stone is unique since only 5 other flawless diamonds over 100 carats have ever been sold at auction. In 2013, Sotheby’s Hong Kong sold a 118.28-carat oval diamond for $30.6 million.
Lisa Hubbard, Chairman of the Soethby’s Jewellery North & South America stated that, “they purposefully went with a classic shape so that someone may actually wear the thing on their hand without seeming absolutely garish.” Gary Schuler, head of the New York offices, notes that “the 100-carat diamond auction is drawing most of the attention because of the size in comparison to the finger it rests upon.”
Sounds like conflicting ideals, doesn’t it? We hope it doesn’t look too ridiculous on a size 4 1/2 finger. But we’re not the type to look a gift horse in the mouth.
this post is dedicated to my loving husband, Mr. Blog Hostess, just to be a pain in the ass. Diamonds! We need more! Yes, the ‘royal We’ is used at home too.
Not my favourite cut but pretty to look at it. What did your husband think?

he hasn’t looked at it…he’s at work. I’m certain he’ll find it annoying, tell me to buy my own diamonds!
