your R.S.V.P. is only 242 years late

an invitation to the gala ball held at Versailles following Marie Antoinette and Louis Auguste’s marriage ceremony.

Unlike the ball, no invitation was needed to watch the ceremony. Onlookers crammed the windows full to catch a glimpse of the white-and-rose teenage Dauphine.
